Ray Bradbury Knows About Believing and Feeling

In Ray Bradbury's 1953 book Fahrenheit 451 he writes:

"Yes, I believe that, if there's nothing else I believe. It saved itself up to happen. I could feel it for a long time, I was saving something up, I went around doing one thing and feeling another...."

Do you believe one thing, but feel another way about that belief?

Think about what you believe in and then think about how you feel.

You may surprise yourself.

Roman Polanski was a Believer

Christopher Sandford writes in his book Polanski: A Biography that Roman Polanski "... had a clear and unshakable belief in his place at the top of the directors' league table, a boast that by and large proved more justifiable as time went on." Do you think that Polanski would have been a successful director, earning an Oscar for directing The Pianists, if he didn't believe that he was a great director?

In a 1986 interview with the journalist Pierre-Andre Boutang Polanski said, "I pep myself up by telling myself I'm the greatest, the most talented, a genus. When I'm working on a film, I truly believe it's going to be a success..."

Do you believe that what you are doing in life will be successful?

Is there something that you do to pep yourself up so that you do believe in yourself?

Do you believe that the pep is vital to your success?

Where does the feeling of being successful fit in your life?

Do You Believe in Your Diet?

Debra Waterhouse author of "Outsmarting the Female Fat Cell" writes of the OFF Plan that she created. In Chapter Four, Waterhouse states that you must prepare yourself psychologically for the OFF Plan and the the first  step in preparing yourself is "You must believe in it."

Why would someone every contemplate trying something that they didn't believe would work?

Believing is what makes all the difference in the world!

Would you try a diet if you didn't believe that it would work?

Would you try anything if you didn't believe in a positive outcome?

Think about 2 things that you do everything and expect to get some benefit from them. Do you truly  believe that what you are doing will work? Or, are you doing it because you feel that you should or possibly someone told you that you should, and you really don't believe in what you are doing?

Katharine Hepburn Believed

In her autobiography "Me", Katharine Hepburn writes that she believes "You've got to dream up everything. I believe in miracles.  Hepburn believed that the power of our spirits to create is what separates us from animals.

Do you believe you can dream to create?

Do you believe your spirit has power?  If so, how do you believe you should use that power?

Increasing Your Luck

Do you believe that your luck will be increased by carrying lucky charms, touching wood and avoiding the number thirteen?

The belief is within you, not the lucky charm.

Think about where these beliefs come from.  Are they something you were told as a child?

Is it a belief that has been passed down from generation to generation, like a family heirloom?

Or do you have a personal experience of your luck increasing with a lucky charm and now you have made it your belief.

Remember, if it's not something you truly believe in, you can let it go and create a new belief regarding luck.

Perfectionism

Are you the kind of person who feels you have to do everything perfectly?

Do you believe you are the only person who knows how to do this one thing exactly right?

Do you believe you must place unrealistic demands on yourself and others by using words such as "must', "need" and "have to"?

If you answer "yes" to the above, then think about this, wouldn't it be easier to change that belief?

Wouldn't there be a lot less stress if you changed your belief about perfection to something like, "A bruised banana is a perfectly bruised banana"?
